Vislogix wins Digital Screenmedia Association 2011 Award of Excellence for Vanderbilt Project!

Brief overview of the project/technology:
When Anode hired vislogix to design a dynamic interactive centerpiece for Vanderbilt's six-million-dollar renovation of the Jean and Alexander Heard Library, we collectively came up with a very challenging but unique and engaging concept utilizing our Respondr interactive system. The end result was an interactive floor projection display comprised of a series of morphing shapes that are filled with real time student search queries from within the Vanderbilt Library. These searches are first filtered and parsed for inappropriate content and are then dynamically displayed into three different transitioning word shapes as described. Each search term when displayed goes it's own life cycle which is evidenced by color shifts before being replaced by a new term. All word positioning within each shape is based on a variety of algorithms including character count. Additionally a custom interface was created to allow a variety of customizations such as color schemes and time delays of the various interactive objects. Initially deployed word shapes include a Star, the Vanderbilt "V", and the Vanderbilt Oakleaf, while new shapes are currently being considered to constantly keep the display fresh and original.

Objectives of the deployment or the technology:
Objectives included creating a custom version of Respondr that was tied into the library's computer network with a custom designed program that would pull real-time student searches, parse and filter for profanities and inappropriate terms (along with a black list), and finally pull the cleared terms into the system at which point a variety of custom algorithms determined where in each morphing shape a particular word would be positioned. The floor projected display then would react to motion in the center of the library lobby as students, faculty and visitors engage with the word shapes.

Results achieved:
Results in a unique deployment such as this are not measured in terms of ROI as much as they are about the overall student, faculty and visitor experience. Everyone was extremely satisfied with the results and the system has been running error free since October 2010. Currently additional shapes are being considered to further enhance the library's desire to accentuate holidays, seasons, etc.

Single custom installation in Nashville, TN. The application receives several hundred interactions daily.

Overall a very unique and interactive device. It's clear that this is a design feature. Very well done.

The challenges of such high end user engagement coupled with approaches to assure that standards of content practice and policies are maintained appear to be thoughtfully met with this advanced application. Vanderbilt is to be applauded!

Nice implementation. Good overall design with neat functionality.

Wow. Nice out of the box thinking. Clever use of Google words. Developers understood that library card catalog and reference system formed the basis of the Google search magic and its billion dollar market cap.

Custom Respondr Projects For Coca Cola at the Vancouver Winter Olympics

This video showcases two custom Respondr projects that were installed for Coca Cola and Dangers, Inc. at the Vancouver Winter Olympics.

The first installation was a 16' tall, fully interactive Coca Cola bottle that was the centerpiece of the Coca Cola Happiness Pavilion. Several custom content packages (ie. Coke Classic, Canada wins Gold, etc.) were created to create a myriad of effects and visual experiences for the 250,000+ visitors.

The second installation was a gesture driven Recycling game where teams of participants competed against one another to see who could recycle more virtual objects in the shortest time while using real world bins.

Everyone had a blast and of course...a coke!

Auction Direct USA incorporates vislogix technology into new mall concept store

Auction Direct USA, a rapidly expanding used car sales company with multiple locations across several states has incorporated our projection-based technologies in their first of several planned mall-based stores. This unique concept store, located in the Eastview Shopping Center in Rochester, NY will be opening its doors officially towards the end of this month.

The installation, which was just been completed this past week, features a custom built 14' x 5' suspended projection wall with edge blended "multi-feed" content, and a 50" Holo-iTouch "Window Unit" which allows visitors to shop their inventory of cars right through the storefront glass window.

Here's a picture of the large video wall in action. More videos and pictures will be posted once the store officially goes live in a few weeks. (The touchscreen could not be properly photographed due to the current construction facade which is still up pending the grand opening)

vislogix now distributing Sunlight Screen in the US, South America & Canada

We are very excited to announce that we will be distributing Screen-NT GmbH's absolutely amazing Sunlight Screen products in the United States, South America & Canadian territories.

What is Sunlight Screen?
Sunlight Screen is a true "direct" sunlight readable LCD that comes in a vandal-proof enclosure that is both self-cooling/heating and is manufactured to thrive in virtually any climate from the hot and humid summers in Florida, to the bone-chilling temperatures way up there in the Colorado ski havens. Not only is it "direct sunshine" readable, but it actually gets more vivid as the sunlight intensifies. Even better, each system can be ordered with an optional on-board PC and touch-based interactivity.

To be honest, you can't even compare a regular LCD to a Screen-NT Sunlight Screen. It's a well known fact that normal LCD's don't perform well in sunlight. They lose their contrast, show a lackluster image and get damaged from the continuous exposure to the direct rays of the sun.

Screen-NT's patented Sunlight System on the other hand, utilizes a transflective technology that actually harnesses the strength of the sun to brighten the picture via a built-in reflective system behind the crystals. So in layman's terms, the sun actually increases the backlight therefore improving the image in even unobstructed, direct sunshine. In dark lighting and nighttime conditions, the picture is illuminated as with any other comparable high quality LCD, by using the standard active backlight.

Where will you put yours?
Think of all the new avenues that these Sunlight Screens now open up. Theme parks, outdoor mall interactive directories, stadium interactive screens, special event signage (i.e. golf courses, concerts), in-window daylight displays, bus stops, or any other outdoor digital signage locations that previously were simply unworkable are now fair game. Quick Infocomm2009 Booth Recap

Just a quick post regarding our amazing reception at Infocomm2009. Our booth was extremely well received by both attendees and fellow exhibitors alike and this was evidenced by the fact that we were absolutely swamped from start to finish.

We showcased several amazing rear projection screens and films including a brand new super high contrast dual (front & rear) screen called VIStiqueICE which was the highlight feature on our faux interactive thru-glass storefront window touchscreen.(Stay tuned for a more in-depth product feature on this)

We also featured two 50" SAX3D HOPS.® Glass screens and enjoyed having their global business development manager Ronald Schmidt on hand for the event. (Pics & video clips to follow)

Another big highlight was our 4'x9' VIStiqueHC seamless video wall which was done in collaboration with one of our partners Scalable Display Technologies, the leader in edge-blending software. CEO Andrew Jamison, Zach, Ben and the rest of Scalable's team were absolutely fantastic and the response from the crowd was proof once again that SDT's EasyBlend™ product is the solution for easily blending multiple projectors for seamless large scale displays. (we will post a special piece on this in a few days as well)

And last but certainly not least we launched our Holo-iTouch all-in-one transparent touch screen systems for the US market at this event and needless to say it was a smash hit. vislogix would also like to thank Mark Cunningham from Infocus for providing the "light" for the booth, Tara Correia (Infocus) for the very cool Infocus touch screen content package, and Brian Wannamaker from Content Interface Corporation for showcasing some of their ultra-dynamic content creation software which looked simply spectacular on our Holo-iTouch units throughout the event.

vislogix installs an 84" VIStiqueHC projection screen for Texas de Brazil in Chicago

What better way to start off our new blog than with an installation. Texas de Brazil, a high-end Brazilian steakhouse with 15 current locations across the US and 1 in Aruba, hired us several weeks ago to help increase visibility and branding at their E. Ohio, Chicago location.

The challenge: Increase restaurant traffic and enhance brand visibility by specifically focusing on showcasing the luxurious interior, fine dining, and Texas de Brazil's fabulous "wine angels" to the outside world.

The solution: We designed and manufactured a custom oval-shaped 84" VIStiqueHC (high contrast) projection screen that is suspended in the window. The screen plays a continuous loop of branding effects and restaurant footage including their fabulous wine angels that fly acrobatically like trapeze artists to grab bottles of wine from the 60' high wine wall that is located inside this lavish and sprawling restaurant. (A truly impressive acrobatic display) We also included an interchangeable VISclear screen which is 98% transparent for potential future holographic content.
